To turn from the negative to the positive is not as easy as it seems. You have to make conscious choices and if you are not sure what these conscious choices are then it can be a very difficult thing to do. I grew up a fearful person, always looking at the dark rather than the light. The more I looked at the dark, the more trouble and difficulty came my way, almost as if I was atrracting them because of the negative thoughts I was thinking. This continued right into my forties, I had suffered one divorce, and it seemed as if I was heading towards another divorce, and I became very depressed. My doctor told me to either get the divorce or turn to religion, as he didn’t want to listen to my tale of woe for the rest of my life.
Well my daughter came home, whilst away in London she had become a ‘born again Christian’ and persuaded me to come to a church in Norwich that was recommended to her, I joined her and never looked back. I am still there, 26 years on, and am happy to say that My Heavenly Father has changed everything for me, mostly changed me, because I needed to change, but my husband and I are still together and today I am deeply grateful for that fact. We are best of friends and do everything together, well almost. But what I am trying to say is mainly that I learnt the 10 ways to overcome negativity, without consciously learning it, mainly through my relationship with Father God and getting to know Him personally.
“It’s tough to argue against the power of positive thinking. A multitude of studies, data and anecdotal evidence supports the notion that optimists experience less stress, stronger immune systems and overall better health than their Debby Downer …”
I do hope you watched the slide show in the article by Huffington Post, I thought the 10 ways were excellent, a real help if you positively put them into practice.
The previous post Dr Caroline Leaf explains that negativity can really change our brains, that thoughts can be toxic and cause our bodies to become diseased, but we can change all that. I have found a wonderful power in reading the Bible, it is definitely life changing, and it saddens me to see how many people rubbish it. But until you seek the Lord, and make a total commitment to follow Him, the Bible is a closed book, which is why people that haven’t made that commitment do not understand it. However the 10 ways given in the above article will help you wonderfully. Being thankful is the first one, and that is so important. When I think of how much we have in the West, and I think of how little African people have, but how thankful they are for the little they do have, it saddens me, because life is more than having material stuff. But also looking for the silver lining is your circumstance, forgiving everyone that upsets you, laughter, de-stressing your life etc, are all essential to turn your negative thoughts into positive.
If you want to read a book called The No Complaining Rule: Positive Ways to Deal with Negativity at Work Review than click on the link colored in yellow. This book is very interesting in that it is aiming to help stop the complaining at work, but to be effective one has to change the negative thoughts and emotions into positive ones, and in simple ways it helps one to do so. I thought it would be another way to achieving a happier and therefore a healthier way of life.
